Consultation and FAQ’s:
-
Will my child have to stop sport?
Not always. We work to keep kids active where possible, with modifications if needed.Does my child need orthotics?
Not necessarily — we’ll only recommend them if we believe they will help your child’s comfort and performance. How long is the appointment?
A children’s sports podiatry assessment is usually 40 minutes to allow a thorough evaluation.Do you work with other health professionals?
Yes — we often collaborate with physios, GPs, and coaches to get the best outcome for your child. -
There's no set age — if you're noticing something that concerns you, that's the right time to get it checked. That said, common trigger points are around age 2-3 (if an arch hasn't developed, or toe walking persists) and during the primary school years if growing pains, heel pain, or changes in gait appear.
-
Yes, very commonly. Most toddlers have flat feet because the arch hasn't fully developed yet — this is a normal part of growth. However, if flat feet persist past age 5-6, cause pain, or affect how your child walks or plays, it's worth having a podiatrist take a look.
-
Occasional toe walking in toddlers is common and often resolves on its own. If it continues past age 3, or your child can't get their heels flat to the ground at all, an assessment is recommended to rule out any underlying cause.
-
We take a relaxed, child-friendly approach — observing how your child walks and stands, checking foot structure and flexibility, and discussing any concerns you've noticed. Most assessments are quick and comfortable, with plenty of time for your questions.
-
Not always. Many issues we see in children resolve naturally with growth, and we'll only recommend treatment — such as custom orthotics, stretches, or footwear advice — if it's genuinely needed. We'll always explain our reasoning clearly.
-
Yes — alongside gait and growth-related concerns, we treat ingrown toenails, warts, and general foot care for children of all ages.
